The Infamous. The HNIC. The Quiet Storm. The Mobb. This is a sad day for Hip Hop. Rest in Peace Prodigy of Mobb Deep. One of the Dopest to ever do it. Made one of the best Hip Hop albums ever. Forever the H.N.I.C. Blessings to you and yours my brotha.
A couple questions come to mind when you think of Gunplay's newest project 'The Plug'; why isn't this album released under Maybach Music and who did the cover art? I am really feelin the cover to this album and extremely happy that Gunplay chose to keep his Hip Hop moniker and not go with Don Logan. The Carol City artist chose the perfect title for this album. There are so many references to Madam Cocaina that I started feelin like a dope boy. This is one of the realest albums of the year so far. Although it only has 11 tracks, Gunplay spits enough bars to make it feel like a complete project, plus who really wants to hear 15 or 16 songs bout bein the 'plug.' His past radio station interviews are featured on the album which allows for a brief comedic break from the real life powder tales he spits on every track. If you've listened to Don Logan's music before and heard the track 'Bible on the Dash'...this album is a reflection of that. I like for artists to spit about their life and what they know while showing off lyrical capabilities, and Gunplay definitely does that on this album. This is Gunplay's sound and I hope he continues to build off of it for future projects. One criticism I have is that the album features no Dade County artists and I'm all about Florida bein represented in some fashion or another. If you want that real life rap bout dat white bitch in da trap go spend some paper on ya boy, yeeeuh digg??!!

I will admit that the majority of the time i've thought that Big Sean's biggest records were kind of corny. You know songs like 'Mula', 'Dance' aka 'Ass, ass, ass', and even his recent track 'Bounce Back'. They just don't move me. Well I liked 'Dance' for other reasons like how the ratchets would always put that work on ya if it came on in the club, but other than that his songs are ehh. I feel like Big Sean has good records but his features and production outshine him. This is probably why Kanye drops his verses on songs they have together. The concept of 'I Decided' is a reflection of what I just described. The album starts off soulful but then here comes 'Bounce Back', which sounds like a demo track. It's funny because Big Sean himself said it was a throwaway song. The album continues and you realize you've heard quite a few songs on the project, but you most likely thought it was someone elses because they remixed it and made it sound better. The album feels, for lack of a better word, incomplete. Songs seem to cut off before you can feel them out and he just all in all gets outshined by the production quality. Big Sean makes multiple references to his family, especially his moms and grandma, so it feels like an album dedicated to them. He repeatedly thanks his fam for letting him find his own path and reaping the rewards of this music game. I'm sure Big Sean mega fans will love this project but for the general public, it leaves you unsatisfied. But hey the beats are pretty good. Listen and let me know if i'm being to harsh. I won't be spending any money on this project tho. Keep growing Big Sean. Detailed track info provided below.

Bun B, Trick Daddy, Scarface...everybody knows these are a few of the South's living legends. Real Hip Hop heads understand artists like Devin The Dude are legends in their own right. If not, he should definitely be in the conversation. 'Acoustic Levitation' brings that classic Devin The Dude, borderline R&B, vibe. I like to describe his style as "Real Life Music." He understands the mindset of the everyday black man. The brotha working to support his family, hustlin to survive, and enjoying the simple things in life like a cold brew, fried fish, fine women, and of course that high grade levitation. The first three tracks off 'Acoustic Levitation' are the epitome of Devin the Dude and what he brings to Hip Hop and southern culture. If you like cookouts with good BBQ and soul music, you definitely need to put this album on repeat. Detailed track info provided below.

They don't call him "The Chef" for no reason. He definitely cooked up a full course Hip Hop meal seasoned with Blues, Jazz, and Soul proving that his WHIP GAME PROPER. Raekwon's latest project 'The Wild' has to be one of the best albums of 2017. Maybe i'ma sucker for elite lyrical content and a snare that hit you like a Raekwon The Chef bar, but this project feels special. I guess another word for it would be...refreshing. The 'Trap' sound has flooded radio waves for the past couple years so hearing an updated 'Boom Bap' version of Hip Hip seems to fill a void in this musical revolution we are having with more Sing-Song or Melodic Rap styles. Tracks like "Marvin" prove that ones creative process does not have to be limited. Raekwon literally spits about the tragedy of Marvin Gaye...seriously, who thinks of something like this to put on an album? As an OG in the game and a seasoned veteran of Hip Hop, Raekwon shows that as an emcee few can match him. I hope he continues to put albums out for another 2 decades. Definitely a MUST LISTEN. Keep cookin...Detailed track info provided below.

We copped these tasty babies at the first official PrettyLeaf dispensary visit. Not sure what the mgs and stuff means when it comes to THC but these treats were delicious and strong. The delayed onset of the 'high' makes you want to eat more. DO NOT DO THIS. It hits you after an hour and you DEFINITELY feel it. You can taste the ganja in it, but it's not overwhelming. I say give it a try and Be Flyy.
Mary J. Blige's latest project 'Strength Of A Woman' has to be one of the most HONEST albums of the year. How is it possible to learn even more about The Queen? She has given us her life for the past 20 years, yet you feel like you've developed a deeper closeness with her. Sonically and lyrically this project covers all bases. Though considered an R&B album, it feels sooooo Hip Hop. I guess that's why we fell in love with Mary J. Blige in the first place. This project bares Mary's truths and frustrations she dealt with in her past relationship, yet it feels like something quite a few people have gone through in their life. Outside of lyrically content, the production is incredible. You can tell many of the industry's heavy hitters approved of this project and wanted to sprinkle their fingerprints on it. You ever listen to an album and been like "Whoa, the concert is going to be amazing"? Well that's the exact feeling you are going to get. At a point you're going to feel a little guilty for enjoying listening to someone's pain so much. If you love music, this an album you have to embrace, replay, and talk about. Go buy it now! This is the BEST Rick Ross album so far. All tracks are fiyah!! It seems like Rozay gets better with every album. He has an amazing ear and you can tell he knows exactly how he wants an album to sound. I was a little worried because of how many features were on it, but it works...it really is an incredible project. 'Rather You Than Me' is Hip Hop. The smoothness of the production compliments the flows he chooses for each track. One thing I am really impressed with is how honest Rick Ross has become on his projects. I guess as a vet in the game, he feels like he can say what he wants about who he wants. This is especially displayed on tracks like "Idols Become Rivals" and "Scientology". I am also starting to become accustomed to Nas being featured on Rick Ross's projects and vice versa. It's kinda strange that they have such a good chemistry. This album has somethin for everybody; dopeboys, d-girls, hip hop nerds, club hoppers, stoners, whoever. It truly is a complete album. You may like certain tracks more than others depending on your vibe or mode, but you definitely are not skipping any songs on here. Cop it or be a square. Carol City all day! I was trying to avoid doing this for soooooo long, but I guess today my nutsack dropped a little and I got the nerve. Maybe I expected too much from Kendrick Lamar. Maybe the hype on K-Dot had my expectations too high. Who knows...but his project 'DAMN.' let me down a smidge. Don't get me wrong, its a great project but I was expecting excellence. I was expecting 'Chronic 2001', 'All Eyez On Me', 'Doggystyle', or even 'Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City' so this review rating may be my fault. A couple of tracks are skip worthy, which is never a good thing for an album with 14 tracks, but all in all it is a really good project. Kendrick's flow is impeccable, his lyrics are solid, and his content is repeat worthy. One thing this album is not lacking is creativity. Again K-Dot shows us different production styles and vocal techniques that are not seen in the average Hip Hop album. This young brotha loves taking risks and I luhhdat. Kendrick Lamar is still growing as an artist and he is destined to be one of the emcees on the Hip Hop Mountain of Dopeness. In my opinion, the simplicity he brings to a song is one of his greatest accomplishments, and the way he builds off that simplicity to create a complete track is what makes him magic. If you don't go get this album, your life is definitely missing something. Stop being a loser, be humble and vibe to K-Dot...I mean DAMN. Detailed track info provided below.

Boy oh boy. Never. I mean NEVER judge a book by its cover. I saw there were only 13 tracks on the album and felt it was a little short for a 3-Man group. Man was I wrong. It's got that perfect vibe. These brothaz got amazin chemistry. Shockingly, their lyrics ain't half-bad either. Quavo, Take Off, and Off Set are on to somethin. I am not sure who helped them put this album together as a production leader, but they did an amazing job. After hearing a few mixtapes and songs by Migos, you kind of got the feel that they had the potential to make great songs, but maybe not a complete album. WRONG. The sound of the album is flyy, but outside of that the lyrical content is pretty solid. If you don't get caught up in the flow, you actually learn somethin about where these young brothaz come from, their mindset, their goals, and their life in general. Yeah they have a good time, but they know what their priorities are. If you need that thump wit some solid content, check out the Migos album, 'Culture.' Really DOPE project. Spend some bread on this and do it for the culture. DAT WAY! Detailed track info provided below.

First off 'Plata O Plomo' is a dope ass title for an album. I been following Remy Ma since the early 2000s and Fat Joe since Don Cartagena and D.I.T.C. If you don't know bout it, learn your history. Fat Joe is a lowkey production genius and Remy Ma is an elite lyricist, so the marriage between the two was definitely gonna turn out amazing. The album has a big production sound. I know you've heard 'All The Way Up' beatin down someone's speakers...so just imagine an entire album giving you that feeling. Sadly, it only has 12 tracks and features an artist on every song so it doesn't really feel like a Fat Joe and Remy Ma album. I wish it had 14 songs and had a few just featuring them two on it, but hey, Fat Joe is coming off of hiatus and Remy is adaptin to civilian life so beggers can't be choosers. It's still a really good project and I am genuinely excited about what's next for both of them. Go open your wallet and do right by this duo. Detailed track info provided below.

Wow! Just listened to Freddie Gibbs project, 'You Only Live 2wice' and i'm somewhat impressed. Not sure if it's an EP or a LP but all in all it's a solid project. Since it only has 8 tracks i'm going to judge it as an EP. Freddie Gibbs is one of the most underrated rappers in the game probably due to his lack of commercial success. He definitely is lyrically inclined and is one step away from reaching his true potential. If he had a producer that really connected with him, I feel he could show the Hip Hop game how good he really is. This EP has some spotlight bright moments and if you appreciate lyricism with gangsta intuition it is a must listen. Not sure if I would tell you to come out your pocket for this project, but if you get a chance, see what Freddie is talking about. Detailed track info provided below.

I did not hear much buzz about Prodigy's album this year. It's called 'Hegelian Dialectic' aka 'The Book Of Revelation.' Let's be real, that's a pretty strange title...especially for a hip hop album, but hey who can disagree with the H.N.I.C. Prodigy definitely brings knowledge and reveals his own truths and thought processes on this album. He is really conceptual and speaks to the issues plaguing not only the Hip Hop industry, but America as well. P always hits us with REAL lyrical content, but the Alchemist is definitely missing on this album. He is only featured on one track, 'Mystic.' It just doesn't have that same 'oomph' that we are used to when the super producer teams up with the Infamous. 'Hegelian Dialectic' is is full of gems and you would be a fool to ignore the album. It's a solid project and I would recommend any Mobb Deep or Prodigy superfan to buy it. All hip hop heads need to listen to it. Detailed track info provided below.
